Paul Valthaty

Paul Valthaty

Mumbai born cricketer Paul Valthaty was like a spark that failed to turn in the fire. In the 2011 season, Kings XI Punjab bagged Paul’s service after one player got injured. He turned out to be an explosive batsman for the franchise.

During the match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), he played one of the most admirable innings of the 4th edition. Chasing a mammoth 189-run target, he played unbeaten innings of 120 not out in 63 balls and led KXIP to win the match with five balls still spare to bowl.

He continued his run strike as in further matches, he scored 75 of 47 deliveries and 46 off just 31. He ended up as the sixth-highest run-scorer of IPL 2011. His part-time also helped the Punjab based franchise, in one of the matches, he picked four wickets giving 29 runs.

The 2007-2008 domestic season was an outstanding year for him. The hard-hitting batsman was the highest run-scorer for Goa.  he scored 640 runs at 71.11 with a personal best of 254 not out, against Railways. For his prolific performance, he was retained by CSK for the next two seasons. But the player lost his shine and proved expensive in both the season. He leaked many runs and lost his wicket-taking capability.

In the sixth season, he got back his form when he played for KXIP and was again in the news but not for his bowling. He had scored crucial runs for the team at lower order against KKR. He was also adjudged with the man of the match award.
