Shane Warne, former Rajasthan Royals captain, has said that Sanju Samson can earn the call from Team India if he gives consistent performance in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020.
Earlier, in an interview, Shane Warne had said that he was surprised to not see Samson playing for India in all the formats. His remark had come after Samson’s 74 runs knock against Chennai Super Kings in Sharjah.
The former Australian cricketer has now said that he hopes that the youngster gives similar performances, like the one he gave in Sharjah, throughout the tournament. So that, the doors can open for Samson in Team India across all the formats.
Sanju Samson, I mean I have been saying it for a long time now, Sanju should be playing all forms of the game for India. He is such a quality player, he’s shown that class again in the first game and I hope he has a consistent tournament this year. If he has a consistent tournament this year I think you’ll see him representing India in all forms of the game,” Shane Warne said.
Notably, Samson has so far played four T20Is for the national team where he has scored only 35 runs at the strike rate of 97.22.
Sanju Samson’s talent is something else: Shane Warne
Shane Warne has, further, heaped praise on Samson’s talent. He said that he had met a lot of talented cricketers but Sanju Samson is something else.
“He’s just such a talented player, I’ve seen a lot of talented cricketers in my time but watching Samson bat, in the nets being around him, speaking to him over the years and now watching him evolve I mean he is something else. He is a very special talent and I hope he hits the international stage very soon,” added the 51-year-old.
Overall, the wicketkeeper-batsman has, so far, amassed 159 runs in two matches at the strike rate of 214.86. If he gives similar performances throughout, no doubt his selection in the national team is inevitable.
