IPL 2020: What More Can You Ask From MS Dhoni – Sunil Gavaskar After CSK Defeat MI

Sunil Gavaskar is deeply impressed with MS Dhoni’s captaincy during the tournament opener against Mumbai Capitals on Saturday. CSK won the match by five wickets even though they didn’t have a good start.
With the help of Ambati Rayudu and Faf du Plessis’ match-winning partnership of 100 runs, Chennai chased down 163 runs target with four balls spare. MS Dhoni took some noteworthy decisions and guided them to the first victory of the IPL 2020.
Sunil Gavaskar was not surprised by Dhoni’s exploits as he marks him India’s best ever captain. He counted the former Indian skipper’s achievement of leading the Test team to the top while also winning three IPL titles.
“He’s always been superb as captain. There is no question about it. I mean he has been by far India’s best-ever captain. The results show for themselves. He has won all the limited-overs titles, taken India at No. 1 in Tests, and won 3 IPL titles for CSK. What more can you ask from a person?” Sunil Gavaskar told Star Sports after CSK won IPL 2020 opener.
Sending Jadeja and Curran ahead of MS Dhoni was very calculated: Sunil Gavaskar
MS Dhoni’s most remarkable decision, which paved the way for CSK’s victory was sending Sam Curran above him. England allrounder took away the game from Rohit Sharma with his 18 runs off 6 balls. Sunil Gavaskar reckons that moving Curran and Jadeja above the order was a street-smart decision of Dhoni.
“Also, I think it (sending Jadeja and Curran ahead of him) was very calculated. He knew both of his left-handers were going to be facing deliveries coming into them. Once you connect, both these guys are strong, and it goes out for a six,” Gavaskar added.
CSK buying Piyush Chawla in the IPL 2020 auction had stunned everyone but Dhoni knew the talent he posses. He proved the most economical bowler in the Shiek Zayada stadium, picking one wicket while leaking 21 runs. The wicketkeeper also backed Lungi Nigdi during the match even though he had a bad spell earlier. As a result, Nigidi picked the most number of wickets, dismissing three batsmen.
Meanwhile, CSK will play its second match against Rajasthan Royals on 22 September.
