IPL: These Two Players Will Earn More Money Than MS Dhoni In IPL 2020
MS Dhoni is undoubtedly the biggest name when it comes to the Indian Premier League (IPL). The only player to lead a particular team – Chennai Super Kings in this case – whenever he has played for it, Dhoni is the second-most successful captain in the history of the league. Led by Dhoni, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have always qualified for the second round of the tournament.
They have won the trophy thrice – IPL 2010, 2011 and 2018. Dhoni represented Rising Pune Supergiant – he also led them in IPL 2016 – during the two years when CSK franchise was banned. The former India captain is confirmed to play for the Yellow Army in IPL 2020 and as per N Srinivasan, Dhoni will play IPL 2021 and CSK will retain him.
Dhoni’s association with CSK makes him the biggest name in IPL, which also means that he gets a high remuneration but is he highest-paid player in IPL? The answer is no. For more than two years now, one player is earning more than Dhoni and this year, two players will earn more amount than the CSK captain.
Who are those two players?
India and Royal Challengers Bangalore’s captain Virat Kohli has been earning Rs 17 Crore for two years now – Dhoni earns Rs 15 Crore. He was retained by Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 17 Crore ahead of IPL 2018 auction. It is to be noted that Rs 15 Crore is the highest retention price but RCB had to pay Kohli Rs 17 Crore.
The other player who will earn more than Dhoni is Pat Cummins. The 26-year-old was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 15.50 Crore during IPL 2020 auction. The record price made him highest paid overseas player in the history of the league. Cummins will earn Rs 50 Lakh more than Dhoni.
It remains to be seen if he will perform well. Should he come up with performances, there can also be a case when KKR might retain him for Rs 15 Crore next year.
IPL 2020 starts in March. BCCI is expected to come up with the schedule of the league soon.
