Irfan Pathan Talks About Blaming Greg Chappell For Losing His Swing Bowling Skills

After taking his retirement from cricket, Irfan Pathan is opening up some unknown incidents related to him. One of those is media and experts blaming Greg Chappell for losing Irfan’s swing-bowling ability. However, Irfan has dismissed those long period claims as he has clarified that he still has the ability to swing the ball.

When the young Irfan Pathan made his international debut in December 2003 during India tour of Australia, the left-arm pacer impressed with his impressive swing bowling skills. In a very short time, he not only settled his place in the Indian team, but he was also dominating the world cricket with his amazing magic of swing bowling. Every Indian cricket fans will always remember Irfan Pathan’s Test hat-trick against Pakistan at Karachi in January 2006 where he showed the brilliant swing bowling skills with the new ball.

But with the time progress, he was growing up as an all-rounder as his batting quality was improving massively. Under the coaching tenure of the controversial coach Greg Chappell, Irfan Pathan played as a genuine all-rounder. However, his fitness was deteriorating, and his bowling performances were not consistent enough as it forced him to get dropped from the national team.

While many Indians believed at that time that Greg Chappell was responsible for destroying his swing bowling skills, Irfan Pathan has now clarified that he never lost his swing bowling skills.

Irfan told PTI, “All these discussion people talking about Greg Chappell they are just covering up. (The discussion that) Irfan was not interested, it was coming from somewhere.

“All the aura they made that Irfan lost his swing, people need to understand, that you are not going to get the same kind of swing that you get in 10 overs. I was still getting the swing.”

Irfan Pathan also revealed his responsibility in the national team during that period. However, he also questioned his removal from the national team without reason.

He added, “People talk about my performance, but my job was different. I was given job to contain because I was bowling first change. I had been told this is your job. I remember getting dropped after winning the game in Sri Lanka in 2008, who gets dropped after winning the game for the country without any reason?”

Till 2012, Irfan Pathan faced many ups and downs in his cricket career but never gave up. After 2012, he always tried hard to return to the national team but failed to fulfil that dream.

Irfan Pathan played 29 Tests, 120 ODIs and 24 T20Is where the left-handed batsman scored 2,821 international runs, and the left-arm pacer took 301 international wickets.
