Shakib Al Hasan is all set to miss cricketing action for next one year after being handed a two-year suspension – with one year of the punishment being suspended. He will be able to resume to his career from October 29 next year.
During this one year, he will miss T20 World Cup and all the bilateral series which Bangladesh will play. Not just that, he will also miss the T20 leagues around the world which also includes the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020.
Shakib is a part of Sunrisers Hyderabad and it is likely that the team will release him before the IPL auction which takes place on December 19 in Kolkata.
Since his three-year contract with SRH will end next year, Shakib will be part of the mega-auction next year which will take place for IPL 2021. In IPL 2018 auction, he was bought by SRH for Rs 2 Crore.
The 32-year-old was approached for fixing during tri-series in January and in the Indian Premier League last year.
Before SRH’s match against Kings XI Punjab at home, Shakib got a message from the bookie but he ignored it and did well in the match for SRH, playing a pivotal role in team’s win. Under a new captain Kane Williamson, SRH made it to the final of the tournament in IPL 2018
While SRH have the bench strength to replace Shakib, Bangladesh will miss out on the services of their star player. He has been the mainstay in Bangladesh’s success for over years and with him ruled out for next one year, Bangladesh have a tough task to replace Shakib.
In his absence, Mominul Haque will lead Bangladesh in Tests. Mahmudullah will take over the leadership job in T20Is.
Bangladesh next play India in three T20Is and two Test matches next month. The second Test of the series will be a pink-ball Test which will be played at The Eden Gardens.
