Australian limited-overs captain Aaron Finch believes that the national selectors will face a very tough job to decide the Australian squad for the upcoming World Cup.

Since the suspensions of Steven Smith and David Warner in March 2018, the Australian national cricket team faced some tough times in international cricket.

However, in their final preparation before the World Cup, Australia has shown some massive improvement in international cricket. Recently, Australia won the limited-overs series against the strong home side Indian national cricket team. After winning the two-match T20I series by 2-0 in that India tour, Australia was trailing the five-match ODI series by 2-0 after the second ODI. However, later, they made a remarkable comeback in that ODI series and won by 3-2.

Currently, Australia is busy in the UAE to play a five-match ODI series against Pakistan. Australia has already secured the ODI series after the first three ODIs where they are leading by 4-0. They have outplayed the younger Pakistan side in all those four ODIs.

Meanwhile, Steven Smith and David Warner have just completed their suspension periods. They will be available for the selection in the upcoming World Cup. However, the present Australian national cricket team is also performing very well.

Aaron Finch commented on Australia’s World Cup selection

Aaron Finch feels that it will be a huge tough job to select the 15-member Australian squad for the upcoming World Cup. Australia’s present form has put a serious question mark on Steven Smith and David Warner’s comeback in the national team during the forthcoming World Cup.

Aaron Finch recently said about the World Cup squad selection, “It is bloody hard. Especially when the side is playing so well, it’s going to be difficult. No matter who it is.

“At the end of the day … it’s an incredibly tough decision. Whatever balance you go with in that 15-man squad, there’s going to be some very unlucky blokes out there.”

Aaron Finch revealed the reason for Australia’s present success

After some struggling months, Australia has recently won 7 consecutive ODIs. The present players are performing consistently in international cricket which are bringing positive results for the national side.

Talking about Australia’s present improvement, Aaron Finch has pointed out the consistency of selection.

He said, “The fact that guys are getting more of an opportunity to keep developing their role, and developing the role they’ve been asked to play or the game demands, is gold.”

England and Wales will host the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup from 30th May to 14th July. A total of ten teams will participate in this competition, including Australia.

Australia is currently the no.5 ranked ODI side. The record five-time World Cup winning team Australia will start their upcoming World Cup journey as the defending champions. They will play their first match in this tournament on 1st June against Afghanistan at Bristol.
