It’s Flattering To Be Compared To Virat Kohli – Babar Azam

The 24-year-old Pakistan cricketer Babar Azam is a very talented cricketer while many experts compare him with the Indian skipper Virat Kohli. Recently, Babar Azam revealed that he feels pleasing with that top comparison.

Babar Azam made his international debut in May 2015. Since then, the right-handed batsman has gradually become one of the essential cricketers for his nation. He has played 21 Tests, 59 ODIs and 29 T20Is where he has scored 1,235 runs (average 35.28), 2,462 runs (average 51.29) and 1,187 runs (53.72) respectively.

At present, Babar Azam is one of the most in-form cricketers in international cricket. In the recent South Africa tour, he was in an excellent batting form. Playing in all the 12 matches in that tour (including one three-day tour match), Babar Azam was the highest run-scorer for Pakistan. In that tour, he scored 671 runs with an average of 51.61.

The Pakistan cricketer is very consistent with the bat at present. In the latest ICC rankings, he is the top-ranked T20I batsman and fifth-ranked ODI batsman. Praising his batting skills, many experts compare him with the international cricket star Virat Kohli.

Comparison with Virat Kohli

The Indian captain Virat Kohli is currently the top-ranked Test and ODI batsman. From the long-time, he has maintained his batting in international cricket.

After making his international debut in August 2008, Virat Kohli has played a lot of international cricket. He has played 77 Tests, 222 ODIs and 65 T20Is where he has scored 6,613 runs (average 53.76), 10,533 runs (average 59.50) and 2,167 runs (average 49.25) respectively. In every format, Virat Kohli has an excellent average that shows his consistency level.

The Indian captain has maintained his top-form in last few years. Even the leadership responsibility hasn’t distracted him from his game.

Recently, Babar Azam has revealed that the comparison with Virat Kohli is flattering for him. He also added that he wanted to follow Virat Kohli’s path to bring the top success in Pakistan cricket.

According to News.pk, Babar Azam told “It’s flattering to be compared to Kohli. He is very consistent and his mindset is very good, he gives 100 percent every time he walks out to bat. I am at the start of my career, so the aim is to be like him and be the epitome of performance in each of Pakistan’s wins.”

Babar Azam is now focusing on playing his maiden cricket World Cup. England and Wales will host the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup from 30 May to 14 July.
