Jacques Kallis Feels IPL Is The Best Way To Prepare For A World Cup

The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) head coach Jacques Kallis believes that the IPL is the best way to prepare for a World Cup.

England and Wales will host the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup from 30th May to 14th July. The top ten international teams will participate in this tournament. Before the Cricket World Cup, many top cricketers will be busy in IPL 2019 that is set to run from 23rd March to mid-May.

Some people believe that IPL may play a distraction role for some players in their World Cup preparation. However, Jacques Kallis has an opposite opinion on this.

He recently said according to Sportstar, “The World Cup is there. We are not going to hide behind that fact but I can assure you the players will try their best. As much as it is in the back of their mind, their focus is going to be on the IPL to get into good form, in good competition and under pressure situations. That’s the best way to prepare for a World Cup.”

As the World Cup is not far away, the workload management is going to be crucial in IPL 2019. However, Jacques Kallis has full confidence to manage this important thing properly.

He added, “The guys are professionals. They will know when to rest. We got great support staff and the physios and trainers…they will know how to handle the guys. We have full confidence in them and their calls on how the players are going.”

Jacques Kallis believes that the current KKR side is in a better position than any other season. He also credited the KKR academy to help the team to get better.

The KKR head coach said, “The boys are in much better space than we have been in any other season. The academy that we have had has played a big role in helping the guys get to where they are.

“We are as balanced as we could possibly be… we got our bases covered.”

Jacques Kallis is happy to see KKR’s fast-bowling squad for the new season. As they added some more pacers for the new season, the KKR coach believes that it is a big plus for them.

He said, “One thing that we do have this year is few more options in the fast bowling department which is a big plus for us.”

The KKR coach is also happy with the last year’s batting performances. Many of their batsmen performed consistently in the previous IPL season. Six KKR batsmen scored 300+ runs in the last season which were the most for any team in IPL 2018.

Jacques Kallis added, “From the batting point of view, we batted really well last season.”

He further added that the present KKR side has a lot of good power hitters.

He said, “There are a lot of good power hitters in our side in whatever combination we come up with.”

In the last season, KKR played very well. While they finished in the third position in the points table of IPL 2018, they were eliminated from the tournament after losing the Qualifier 2 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

However, Jacques Kallis seems confident about the KKR side for the new IPL season. KKR will begin their IPL 2019 journey on 24th March when they will meet SRH at Eden Gardens (Kolkata).
