Javed Miandad Extends Apology To PM Imran Khan After ‘Disparaging’ Comments

Javed Miandad — the former Pakistan captain is known for embroiling himself into controversies, but, of late he has apologised this time around to Pakistan Prime Minister and former Pakistan skipper. Imran Khan after blaming him for damaging the face of national cricket and even challenged him in politics.

Miandad issued an apology to his former teammate after saying that he had lost his cool after Pakistan’s loss against England in the first Test match played at Manchester.

Pakistan lost the first Test to England despite having a first-innings lead of 107 runs, but eventually failed with the bat in second innings and failed to defend the target of 277 given to England.

At one stage, England were reeling at 117 for five at one stage and Pakistan squandered an opportunity of winning when England’s Jos Buttler and Chris Woakes stitched together a remarkable 139-run partnership for the sixth wicket as England won by three wickets.

Javed Miandad Apologizes For Being Angry Due To Pakistan’s Loss

The veteran Pakistan cricketer — Javed Miandad represented Pakistan from 1975 to 1996 and featured in 124 Tests and 233 ODIs. He was their former coach and held key positions in PCB as well. His last ball six against India to win the Austral Asia Cup is one of the best moments of Pakistan’s cricket history against arch-rivals India.

Besides, Miandad maintained that he has great regard for prime minister — and fans of Pakistan after his nephew Faisal Iqbal was selected as one of the coaches of the domestic teams by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

“If I have offended anyone, I apologise for my words, especially to the prime minister because I was angry about Pakistan’s performance in the first Test against England,” Javed Miandad said.

“I have full respect for prime minister and Pakistan cricket fans all over the world,” he added.

Miandad was involved in many incidents like hitting Australian Dennis Lille with his bat during Pakistan’s tour of Australia in 1981/1982 after colliding while scampering for a quick single run. He also infamously imitated an over-enthusiastic Kiran More during a match against India in 1992 World Cup.

Javed Miandad In Controversy Yet Again Alleging Pakistan PM

Javed Miandad is known for his disputed remarks and controversy was aroused when he alleged that Imran Khan had damaged the face of Pakistan cricket besides indirectly blaming PCB Chief Executive Officer Wasim Khan.

“I was your captain, you weren’t my captain. I’ll come to politics and then I’ll talk to you. I was the one who led you all the time, but you act like god now.

“It is almost like you’re the only intelligent person in this country. As if no one else has gone to Oxford or Cambridge or any other university in Pakistan. Think about the people. You don’t care about the country. You came to my home and went out as a prime minister. I challenge you to deny this,” Javed Miandad said.

It becomes pertinent that, Javed Miandad’s son Junaid Miandad is married to Mahrukh Ibrahim, who is the daughter of India’s most wanted gangster — Dawood Ibrahim.

On the other hand, Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan was the captain during their only major ICC trophy win in 1992 World Cup. He featured in 88 Tests and 175 ODIs playing as an all-rounder. He played from 1982 to 1992 and is considered as Pakistan’s greatest all-rounder since he registered 3807 Test runs and 362 Test wickets besides accumulating 3709 ODI runs and 182 ODI wickets.

Imran’s political party is Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and he assumed office from 18th August 2018 and also is a member of National Assembly from 13th August 2018.
