The 24-year-old England cricketer Jofra Archer has recently talked about his possibility whether he can feature in the IPL 2020 or not.
IPL 2020 will begin on 29th March, and it will run till 24th May. However, in early February, Rajasthan Royals (RR) has got a massive blow as the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced that Archer would not be available for the IPL 2020 due to his right elbow injury. While the early scans confirmed that Archer had a low-grade stress fracture, the ECB is expecting to get fit him ahead of their new home season in early June.
The talented bowling all-rounder Archer hasn’t played a match in the new year (2020) due to his injury issue. He has already missed out the limited-overs series in South Africa along with last three Tests of four-match series in that tour. He will also miss the forthcoming two-match Test series against the hosts Sri Lanka, and he is in great danger to miss out the entire IPL 2020.
I’m not targeting anything: Jofra Archer
Recently, Archer has extended his contract with English county cricket team Sussex for the two more years. After this confirmation, he talked about his present condition. He feels that his elbow is much fine, but he is not in the situation to set any target on his return date. Though he is not happy with this injury, he is enjoying this break.
In Sussex’s website, Archer told in a video interview, “The elbow is fine. I haven’t felt it for the last few weeks now so I think it’s making good progress.
“I’m not targeting anything. I’ve played a lot of cricket so I don’t think I’ll forget how to play cricket even if I don’t do anything for the next couple of months.
“It’s actually nice to just take a break. I’m not happy that it’s come at this time but I’m also grateful that I’m getting the chance to relax and take a step back for a bit.”
Talking about his possibilities for the IPL 2020, Archer has crossed his fingers. At present, he can’t guarantee his returning time in this game. He believes that the next scan can reveal many things about his current fitness status.
He added, “You never know, fingers crossed. I’ll probably have some more information when I get it re-scanned. It could be a bit longer, I might have to wait, it could be a bit shorter.”
Though the ECB has claimed that Archer has been ruled out from IPL 2020, Rajasthan Royals hasn’t lost their hope yet. Soon after his ruling out news, the Rajasthan franchise tweeted to confirm that they were working with ECB to help Archer’s speedy recovery to see him in the upcoming IPL edition.
