Jofra Archer, originally born in Barbados made his ODI debut for England and thought it was nowhere close to the fairytale starting ahead of the 2019 World Cup he did prove a point r two ov3er the last couple of years. It is still not sure whether Jofra Archer will be considered for the 2019 World Cup. However, English Test skipper Joe Root wants him to be a part of the Ashes squad for England which is slated to be played just after the conclusion of the 2019 World Cup.
England had to change their residency policies to make Jofra Archer available for national selection ahead of the quadrennial event. He has been a sensation in different T20 Leagues all across the world and has already made a huge name for himself. His wicket-taking abilities make him an integral part of any team he plays for. He has shown glimpses of his abilities during his ODI and T20I debut for England against Ireland and Pakistan respectively.
The man from Barbados can consistently clock 140 km/hr and had the ability to hurl Yorkers on a consistent basis. This was one of the main reasons why Joe Root was eager to include him for the Ashes which will begin just after the conclusion of the World Cup. Root is of the opinion that Archer will be perfectly suited for the Test format despite playing just 26 first-class matches for Sussex ever since making his debut in 2016. He will keep an eye on Archer in the upcoming games.
“I’m looking at everyone with an eye towards the Ashes,” Root said when asked about Archer’s chances of playing Test cricket. “You can see the value of what he (Archer) could bring to a side, that extra bit of zip, and he makes things happen.”
“He’s someone that wants to get into the game and try and make things happen and that’s a great quality to have on this stage. It will be interesting to see how he goes in the next few games,” he added.
Joe Root is of the opinion that Jofra Archer will be a perfect option in Test cricket and will provide good support to the likes of James Anderson and Stuart Broad who are both in the twilight of their careers.
“It’s exciting to see another option to add to what is a growing bowling group, with the experience that we have in the two senior guys (James Anderson and Stuart Broad) and guys like Woody (Mark Wood) putting in a performance like he did in that last Test match (in the West Indies),” he concluded.
