Jonty Rhodes Talks About Virat Kohli’s Influence on Team India

Former South African cricketer Jonty Rhodes has labelled Indian captain Virat Kohli as the most ‘powerful player’ in the team. Rhodes has previously also heaped the praise on Kohli for his batting juggernaut.

Recently, Kohli had a bad tour in New Zealand. The skipper struggled to score runs owing to the bouncy pitches of New Zealand. The star batsman scored only 38 runs at an average of 9.50 in the two-match Test series. He recorded the worst average in his Test career. But, as said, the big players are not judged by two or three bad innings.

Recently, in an interview, the former Proteas talked about Virat Kohli and his influence on Team India.

“I feel the most powerful player in the Indian cricket team is Virat Kohli. He has been consistent with his performance and is an overall package,” said Rhodes.

Further, he also appreciated the fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah and the middle-order batsman Suresh Raina, who has been sidelined from the team.

Raina last played for the team in 2018 and since then he is out of the team because of his form. The player is an extremely good fielder and has been phenomenal in that department over the years.

Rhodes said– “I also really appreciate the performance of Jasprit Bumrah and Suresh Raina. The entire Indian cricket team has a lot of potential in it.”

Rhodes also expressed his love for the country and the different cultures and traditions in India.

“I was so overwhelmed that I named my daughter India and spend 150 days a year. Just come with an open mind and embrace what you see”

The 50-year-old Rhodes had also applied for the job of fielding coach in India’s national cricket team. But could not get the place while competing with R Sridhar for the race. However, Rhodes has the experience of coaching stints at various levels.
