England were rampant against Bangladesh on Saturday. The hosts scored an impressive 386/6 in their 50 overs batting first. However, their day got dampened after their key player Jos Buttler suffered a hip injury while batting.
After asked to bat first, England openers gave the hosts a solid start. They put on a century stand for the opening wicket. Jason Roy was in a spectacular form against Bangladesh bowlers. He managed to score his maiden World Cup hundred and ninth ODI hundred in the process.
Eventually he made 153 runs before getting dismissed. Jos Buttler continued the onslaught on the Bangladesh bowlers. The wicket-keeper batsman scored a quick fire 64 run knock in just 44 balls. His innings featured two fours and four sixes. Despite his acceleration, Jos Buttler initially suffered the injury during the 38th over.
He tried to hit Mosaddek Hossain for a six and he was successful in doing so. But in the process of hitting the six, the explosive batsman suffered a hip injury.
The team physio was on the field immediately and treated the player.
But Buttler continued his innings and was visibly uncomfortable while running between the wickets. He was seen hobbling for singles and was frustrated to run before he was dismissed. After some huge hits by Liam Plunkett and Chris Woakes, England registered their highest ODI score in their World Cup history.
Interestingly at the beginning of the second innings, Jos Buttler was no where to be seen. In his absence, England opener Jonny Bairstow took over as the wicket keeper in the team. The injury does look serious but considering the fact that Buttler played for good seven overs means there should not be any panic with the fans.
The team management in all likely means rested Buttler as a precaution. It remains to be seen if Buttler could be fit in time for their next game against West Indies on Friday.
On the other hand, England are looking solid after their odd blip against Pakistan. They were completely ruthless with the bat against Bangladesh. The Bangladesh batters are also struggling in their chase, which in all likely means should lead to an England win.
