Former Indian fast bowler Karsan Ghavri believes team India has the best pace battery in the world. The likes of Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ishant Sharma have shown great skills in the recent past and they have been right on the money. The Indian team has never known to have a potent fast bowling unit in the past and it had mainly relied on spinners to get the lion share of the wickets.

In fact, it was noticed that bowlers like Javagal Srinath and Zaheer Khan were often the lone warriors with the ball and didn’t get the support from the other end. However, things have changed for the good in recent times, and the trio of Bumrah, Sharma, and Shami have taken Indian bowling to new heights.

India owes its success to its fast bowlers – Karsan Ghavri

All of them were at their best on the Australian tour where Bumrah finished as the joint leading wicket-taker with 21 scalps.

It has been a collective bowling effort from these three pacers. Furthermore, the team has bowlers like Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umesh Yadav, and Navdeep Saini.

“India has the best fast bowling attack in the world, which is extraordinary,” Ghavri told Hindustan Times during an exclusive conversation. “Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar… you cannot go wrong with these guys. They’ve been performing extremely well. To win a Test match, you need to take 20 wickets and due to these bowlers, India has been able to do so regularly and effectively.”

On the other hand, Karsan Ghavri is impressed with the growth of Jasprit Bumrah. In fact, questions were raised on Bumrah’s action when he came through the ranks but he has had a great start to his Test career. The Gujarat pacer has scalped 68 wickets in 14 Test matches at an average of 19.73.

Bumrah has been brilliant – Karshan Ghavri

“He’s an extremely different bowler; he is no Dennis Lille or a Michael Holding. He’s worked extremely hard to reach where he has because with that sort of action, for Bumrah to maintain the kind of accuracy he has, is commendable. I never thought a fast bowler could have the kind of variety Bumrah has.”

The Indian pacers have shown an upward swing in their improvement graph as they have done a fine job. All the fast bowlers have worked hard on their fitness and they have reaped fruits for the same. A lot of credit also goes to India’s bowling coach Bharat Arun, who has done a magnificent job in getting the best out his players.
