On Monday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India announced squad for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019. One of the major debates after the conclusion of the announcement is the number 4 batsman Vijay Shankar, who got the nod ahead of Ambati Rayudu. Meanwhile, Kevin Pietersen is the latest to join the bandwagon to speak on Vijay Shankar.

The English batsman Kevin Pietersen is currently plying his trade in the Indian Premier League 2019. The nonchalant striker of the ball felt that the selection of Shankar isn’t a convincing one for him, especially, for the ICC World Cup 2019.

I haven’t seen enough of Vijay Shankar – Kevin Pietersen

Speaking in the Sports Star dugout, Kevin Pietersen quoted that he hasn’t enough of Vijay Shankar to pick him at number 4. He believes that Shankar is no way near the legendary batsmen, who played for India at that slot.

He feels that batting in the middle-order isn’t an easy job, especially, in England conditions. Further, Kevin Pietersen quoted that India would have gone with Vijay Shankar and Kedar Jadhav because of their bowling credentials.

“I haven’t seen enough of Vijay Shankar to warrant a No. 4 slot for India in the World Cup. I have seen some great players bat at No. 4 for India and sadly, Shankar seems far away from it. Batting at No. 4 is difficult and even more so in English conditions. It is almost like Shankar and Jadhav have made it to the India squad because they can bowl,” Pietersen said on Star Sports.

So far,  Vijay Shankar had a glorious stint with the Indian National Cricket Team. He impressed the team management with his brilliance with the bat in New Zealand and then, against Australia. He walked in tough phases of the game and settled the ship for India.

However, as Kevin Pietersen said, India might have picked Shankar for his bowling advantage. Well, it would be interesting to see how Shankar fares for the Indian team in the ICC World Cup 2019. The current form of him looks good, as he delivering those required goods for SRH in IPL 2019.
