Kevin Roberts, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Cricket Australia (CA), is going to move out from his position. Will, it put any effect in the crucial and much-awaiting forthcoming India tour of Australia?
In October 2018, Kevin Roberts took the CEO role of the CA after James Sutherland completed his term. As the CA is facing a crisis in the present condition due to the coronavirus pandemic, his role was so crucial in the board.
Now, the CA directors are ready to hold an emergency meeting on this Tuesday (16th June) about the removal of Roberts. Sydney Morning Herald has recently claimed that the CA can officially announce the removal of Roberts from the CEO post this Wednesday.
It is a very important year for the CA who has the plan to organize the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020 and the full international series against India in the upcoming home summer.
The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020 has been scheduled between 18th October and 15th November 2020. Though the tournament is still doubtful due to the coronavirus pandemic, the International Cricket Council (ICC) and CA are still hopeful about this tournament.
Kevin Roberts secured the future of India tour of Australia
Meanwhile, Roberts has already played an important role to secure the assurance from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to travel in Australia in the forthcoming summer. The CA has already announced the schedule where they will play the three-match T20I series, four-match Test series (2019-21 ICC World Test Championship), and three-match ODI series (2020–22 ICC Cricket World Cup Super League). Though the schedule can be changed later, the CA is confident enough about the Test and ODI series against India.
Moreover, Roberts also got the assurance from the BCCI to play one day/night pink-ball Test match in the upcoming India tour of Australia, which will be the Adelaide Test, starting from 11th December.
The financial condition of the CA is now widely dependent on the India tour of Australia as around the Australian dollar 300 million is at stake.
However, Kevin Roberts is still under pressure due to the stand-down of CA employees and cut their salaries. Many have protested on these issues, including the powerful CA affiliated state unit New South Wales (NSW). Also, his other problem is rising with the Australian Cricketers Association (ACA). So, these may be the crucial reasons for the upcoming removal of Roberts.
The CA hasn’t reacted officially in this news yet. After this removal happens, the CA may have to talk with the BCCI freshly about their forthcoming tour. Then we have to see the reaction of the BCCI, which is very crucial to run the India tour of Australia successfully.
