Chappell–Hadlee Trophy 2020: Three Key Pacers Return In New Zealand's ODI Squad 1

On Wednesday (4th March), the New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has announced the 15-member squad for the upcoming away ODI series against the hosts Australia.

Australia will host the Chappell–Hadlee Trophy 2019/20 on 13th, 15th (both at Sydney) and 20th March (at Hobart).

New Zealand played the last ODI series in last month against India at home where they won the three-match ODI series by the 3-0 margin.

Trent Boult, Lockie Ferguson and Matt Henry return to the New Zealand ODI squad

While Trent Boult, Lockie Ferguson and Matt Henry missed out that ODI series due to the fitness issues, all of them have returned to the ODI squad for the upcoming Australia tour. These three pacers played very important roles for the Blackcaps in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, who finished as the runners-up in that tournament due to bizarre rules after the Super Over tie in the final.

The senior pacer Tim Southee and tall young pacer Kyle Jamieson have also retained their ODI spots for the forthcoming tour. However, Hamish Bennett and Scott Kuggeleijn have missed out the latest ODI squad. Also, the late additions Mark Chapman and Blair Tickner have been dropped from the ODI squad.

Otherwise, the selectors have maintained the same ODI squad who helped to complete the whitewash during the last ODI series against the visitors India.

Since February 2009, New Zealand haven’t beaten Australia in Australia in the ODI cricket. Since then, New Zealand have lost six out of seven ODIs against the hosts Australia. However, the visitors New Zealand will feature in the upcoming Chappell–Hadlee Trophy as the defending champions as they won it by 2-0 when they hosted it last time in 2016/17.

Though New Zealand have never won the Chappell–Hadlee Trophy in Australia, they have drawn it twice in this country.

New Zealand’s 15-member ODI squad: Kane Williamson (c), Tom Blundell, Trent Boult, Colin de Grandhomme, Lockie Ferguson, Martin Guptill, Matt Henry, Kyle Jamieson, Tom Latham (wk), Jimmy Neesham, Henry Nicholls, Mitchell Santner, Ish Sodhi, Tim Southee and Ross Taylor.
