Caribbean all-rounder Kieron Pollard created history on Sunday (25th October) night as he became the first fielder to take 300 catches in T20 cricket history.
The 33-year-old Trinidad cricketer Kieron Pollard is already holding the record of most matches in T20 cricket history as he is still the only cricketer to appear in 500+ T20s. Serving for Mumbai Indians (MI) on Sunday night in the 45th match of the IPL 2020 against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium (Abu Dhabi), it was the 523rd T20 match for Pollard. In the absence of regular captain Rohit Sharma due to injury, Pollard led the Mumbai Indians team on that night, which was his second consecutive match as a captain for this team.
During this match, Pollard reached another milestone in his T20 career as he became the first fielder or non-wicket-keeper to take 300 T20 catches. Before this match, he was only one catch away from this feat as he already grabbed 299 catches in 522 T20s.
Kieron Pollard completed 300 T20 catches after dismissing Robin Uthappa
During the second innings of that match against Rajasthan Royals, while James Pattinson dismissed the opener Robin Uthappa (13) in the second over, the stand-in MI captain Pollard was the major reason for that wicket as he took the catch at mid-on to dismiss the Rajasthan Royals opener. Taking that catch, Pollard became the first cricketer to take 300 T20 catches.
Another Caribbean cricketer Dwayne Bravo is in the second position in the list of most T20 catches but he is far behind from Pollard as Bravo has taken 230 T20 catches. South African cricketer David Miller is the only other name who has managed to pick up 200+ T20 catches as he has taken 205 T20 catches.
Most T20 catches (Top 5)
Player | Matches | Catches |
Kieron Pollard | 523 | 300 |
Dwayne Bravo | 471 | 230 |
David Miller | 320 | 205 |
AB de Villiers | 321 | 165 |

Among the wicket-keepers, there is no glove-man who has managed to take at least 200 T20 catches yet. Indian wicket-keeper MS Dhoni is leading the list of most T20 catches as a wicket-keeper as he has taken 179 T20 catches as a wicket-keeper.
