Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) opener Chris Lynn is ready for the new IPL season. The right-handed batsman is hopeful on KKR’s bigger success than last year.
Though Chris Lynn made his IPL debut in 2012 for Deccan Chargers (DC), he has properly introduced himself in KKR since 2014. The 28-year-old has played 28 IPL matches, including the only game for Deccan Chargers, and has scored 875 runs (average 35.00).
In the last IPL season, he was the second most run-scorer for KKR. Finishing just seven runs behind from the KKR skipper Dinesh Karthik‘s runs tally, Chris Lynn scored 491 runs in 16 innings with an average of 32.73. The opener scored three half-centuries in the last IPL season.
The Aussie opener played one of the crucial roles for KKR last year. Under Dinesh Karthik’s captaincy, KKR played very good cricket in IPL 2018. They qualified for their third successive IPL playoffs after finishing in the third position in the final points table of IPL 2018.
However, like the previous two seasons, once again they failed to qualify for the final of IPL 2018. In the Qualifier 2 of IPL 2018, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) ended their journey after beating them by 14 runs.
Ready to rock and roll this year
But, this time Chris Lynn seems confident to produce better performances for KKR. The right-handed opening batsman is ready to face the new challenge in IPL 2019. After praising the KKR fans, he wishes for KKR’s better performances than last year.
Chris Lynn told India Today’s Boria Majumder, “There’s always expectation but I’m the hardest marker of everyone. I expect high standards of myself but the body is first and foremost and that is really good at the moment.
“I have got a job to do at the top of the order for KKR. The fans certainly put you under a little bit more pressure. But that’s great, the support we get at Eden Gardens is amazing. Ready to rock and roll this year. Early momentum is important and hopefully we can go one or two better than last year.”
Beauty of KKR owners
Chris Lynn also praised the KKR owners for their very supportive attitude. Bollywood stars Shah Rukh Khan and Juhi Chawla and Juhi Chawla’s husband Jay Mehta are the owners of KKR. Every one of them is very supportive to the players, while Shah Rukh Khan and Juhi Chawla support them from the front for most of the times. Even many times, Shah Rukh Khan has cheered up the team openly in every situation.
Chris Lynn added, “Beauty of KKR owners.. win lose or draw they are the same person. They give the person the warmth.., Every player is going to have a good or bad day and as a player it’s so good to know – without the expectations of win, win, win.”
IPL 2019 is set to begin on 23rd March. Meanwhile, KKR will start their new season’s journey on 24th March. In their opening game, KKR will meet against the last year’s runners-up SRH at Eden Gardens (Kolkata).
