Chennai Super Kings won their opening game against defending champions Mumbai Indians but then suffered a hat-trick of losses against Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals and SunRisers Hyderabad before winning against Kings XI Punjab quite comfortably by 10 wickets.

They were cruising towards victory against Kolkata Knight Riders but gave away the game scoring less than 60 runs in last 8 overs and lost 4 wickets. Set batsmen opener Shane Watson and in-form Ambati Rayudu were dismissed on 50 and 30 respectively.

Kedar Jadhav scored 7 of 12 balls and batted ahead of Dwayne Bravo which led to Krish Srikkanth questioning the team management’s decision. Kedar Jadhav walked to the crease when CSK needed 39 runs to win off 21 balls and could not score in the first five balls he faced.

The decision of sending Kedar Jadhav ahead of the likes of Dwayne Bravo raised a few eyebrows as critics questioned the team management’s decision. Kedar Jadhav could score only 7 of 12 balls as CSK lost by 10 runs although Ravindra Jadeja playing a cameo of 21 runs from 8 balls. The former’s inability to rotate strike hurt CSK the most.

Kolkata Knight Riders batted first and posted 167 after opener Rahul Tripathi scored 81. Rahul Tripathi was promoted up in the batting order as Sunil Narine wasn’t effective as pinch hitter opener. The latter has now scored only 44 runs with 17 being best score against CSK. On the other hand, Rahul Tripathi now has 117 runs from only two matches at a staggering average of 58.5 and strike rate of 174.63.

Krish Srikkanth credited KKR for playing well as both Andre Russell and Sunil Narine bowled brilliantly in the death overs.
Although the last two overs went for 25 runs, the 17th and 18th overs saw only eight runs which hampered CSK’s chances of winning. CSK were placed at 99/1 in 12 overs and needed only 69 in the next eight which they failed. They could only manage 30 runs with four wickets falling in the next 5 overs from 12.1 to 17.1 overs. Andre Russell returned with figures of 1/18 in 2 overs while Sunil Narine had figures of 1/31 in 4 overs.
