Every batsman dreams to begin their career with a special knock in whichever cricket format. While ODI cricket is almost 50-year-old, we have already seen a lot of legendary batsmen who dominated in this format.
Besides, some legendary batsmen started their ODI career with a duck, but they never gave up and emerged as one of the greatest players.
Here we are talking about the top five legendary batsmen who recorded a duck on their ODI debut innings.
Shikhar Dhawan (India)
Indian left-handed opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan made his ODI debut on 20th October 2010 during the Visakhapatnam ODI against Australia where he scored a duck on just the second ball.
Dhawan got his second chance in ODI cricket in June 2011 during the Caribbean tour where he scored a fifty on his second ODI innings. However, he got the big breakthrough during the ICC Champions Trophy 2013, where the left-handed opening batsman scored his maiden ODI century and finished that tournament as the leading run-scorer (363 runs) which ultimately helped him to win the Player of the Tournament trophy while India won that tournament.
In most of the tournaments, Dhawan has finished as the leading run-scorer of the Indian team. After playing 136 ODIs, Dhawan has scored 5688 runs with an average of 45.14, including 17 centuries and 29 half-centuries. He is undoubtedly one of the greatest Indian ODI openers.
