In his return to Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the Indian pacer Mohit Sharma is excited to play under MS Dhoni’s captaincy once again.
The right-arm pacer Mohit Sharma made his T20 debut in IPL 2013 when he served for CSK. Before CSK’s two-year suspension, he played for this successful side under MS Dhoni’s captaincy.
In his first IPL season, Mohit Sharma picked up 20 wickets in 15 matches with an average of 16.30. However, his best season was the next season (IPL 2014) when he won the Purple Cap after finishing the tournament as the leading wicket-taker. In IPL 2014, Mohit Sharma claimed 23 wickets in 16 matches with an average of 19.65.
The right-arm pacer bagged 14 wickets in 16 matches in the next season (IPL 2015). In the last three years, Mohit Sharma played for Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) but had very mediocre performances. He got a total of 33 wickets in 37 matches in this period.
Before the 2019 IPL Players’ Auction, KXIP decided to release him from the squad. In the Players’ Auction, while Mohit Sharma had the base price of INR 50 lac, CSK won the final bid for INR 5 crore.
Recently, the right-arm pacer lauded MS Dhoni’s captaincy. He claimed that MS Dhoni brought the best out of him according to the different situation.
According the CSK official website, Mohit Sharma said, “I came under Mahi bhai’s captaincy at Chennai Super Kings pretty early in my career, in fact I learnt a lot about my bowling from him. Mahi bhai brought the best out of me. He taught me to think about my bowling, understand the conditions and bowl accordingly.”
I learnt to handle pressure from Mahi bhai
Mohit Sharma is returning to the upcoming IPL season from his back injury that he got during the 2018/19 Ranji Trophy season.
The 30-year-old has played 26 ODIs and eight T20Is for India, mostly under MS Dhoni’s captaincy. He further added that he learnt to handle the pressure from MS Dhoni.
Mohit Sharma quoted, “I learnt to handle pressure from Mahi bhai, handling pressure is what T20 is about, what IPL is about and what playing at home is about.”
During Mohit Sharma’s previous CSK tenure, the team finished as the IPL runners-up for twice (2013 and 2015). However, the Chennai franchise won the 2014 Champions League T20 where Mohit Sharma finished as the second leading wicket-taker for his team (eight wickets in four matches).
I’ve loved the electrifying atmosphere in Chennai
Mohit Sharma also praised the CSK fans. He loves the electrifying atmosphere during CSK’s matches at MA Chidambaram Stadium (Chennai).
In last season (IPL 2018), after some initial matches, CSK’s home matches were shifted to Pune in the wake of Cauvery River water dispute. However, this time it seems like Chennai will get more games, and CSK will carry these crucial supports once again.
Mohit Sharma said, “The atmosphere here is electrifying during our games, the crowd, the support, fans and friends, playing in front of them all is exciting. I’ve loved it.”
