Melbourne Stars opening batsman Marcus Stoinis has become the highest individual scorer in the Big Bash League history. Stoinis smashed 147 runs from only 79 balls in the 34th match of the league while playing against Sydney Sixers. The right-hander was able to hit the ground running as he scored 13 fours and eight sixes in his blistering innings.
The Stars’ opener scored his runs at a strike rate of 186.08. Stoinis went past the previous record of D’Arcy Short who had scored 122 runs from 69 balls while playing for Hobart Hurricanes two seasons ago.
Stoinis was at his absolute best.
Meanwhile, Stoinis and his opening partner Hilton Cartwright posted 207 runs for the opening stand, which is the highest partnership in the BBL. Cartwright played second fiddle to Stoinis as the right-hander scored 59 runs from 40 balls with the help of six fours and three sixes.
Subsequently, Stars posted a gargantuan total of 219 runs after Sydney Sixers skipper Moises Henriques won the toss and decided to bowl first. On the other hand, Sydney Sixers could only get to 175 runs in their batting innings as no batsman was able to get past the 50-run mark. Clint Hinchliffe was the pick of the Stars bowlers as he took three wickets and conceded only 20 runs in his quota of four overs. Thus, the Melbourne Stars comfortably won by 44 runs.
