Want to be a professional cricketer?
The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) feels overwhelmed to announce that a vast amount of cricket fans love and support Test cricket rather than the limited-overs cricket.
Recently, the MCC conducted a worldwide survey to understand the fans’ views on Test cricket. That survey was named as the “MCC Test Cricket survey.” More than 13,000 cricket fans from around 100 countries participated in this survey. Majority of the participants were from England, India, Pakistan, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Sri Lanka.
On Saturday (9th March), the MCC announced the result of that survey after their annual meeting in Bengaluru. The MCC World Cricket committee announced that an average of 86 per cent among the participants preferred Test cricket over any other limited-overs cricket. This survey shows that the oldest cricket format hasn’t lost its glory rather than it has become stronger than ever.
In their media release, the MCC stated, “Overwhelmingly, Test cricket came out as the format that interests fans the most, regardless of country supported or age.
It further added, “Responders to the MCC Test cricket survey still consider the Test format to be the pinnacle of cricket and the favourite format of cricket to attend, follow and watch, with respondents describing the game as the “ultimate” form of cricket.”
More results from that survey
Over the 50 per cent participants claimed that they watched almost every Test match. However, many responders also highlighted the key points to make Test cricket more reliable.
Some of the points are addressing the cost and availability of tickets, broadcasting the Test cricket on free-to-air tv and including half-day tickets to encourage families to attend.
Last year, the International Cricket Council (ICC) had also revealed the result of their first ever global market research. During that research, more than 19,000 interviews had happened around the world. Around 69 per cent of participants had preferred the longest cricket format. In that research, approximately 86 per cent of participants from England and Wales had supported the multi-day format.
The MCC result has given the boost to the Test cricket
However, the present MCC survey has brought the shinier side of Test cricket. This survey has given the boost to the ICC World Test Championship. The ICC World Test Championship 2019-21 will be the inaugural edition of the tournament. It will begin just after the completion of the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup.
England and Wales will host the upcoming World Cup from 30th May to 14th July. A total of top ten teams will participate in this competition.
