Former Australian batsman Michael Hussey reckons that one should not write off a champion player like MS Dhoni. Hussey has spent some quality time while playing for the Chennai Super Kings under the leadership of MS Dhoni. Hence, Hussey knows Dhoni from close quarters and feels it would be early to make any kind of prediction. Meanwhile, Dhoni had last played in the Indian colors back in the semi-final loss against New Zealand in the 2019 World Cup.

Subsequently, Dhoni has not played any kind of professional cricket since then and he also made himself unavailable for national selection. In fact, a lot of cricket boffins had stated that the IPL 2020 will be instrumental in the return of Dhoni to the national team. However, the tournament has been indefinitely postponed.

MS Dhoni has all the experience

Hussey had recently stated that he hopes that Dhoni once again plays for the Indian team. There is no doubt that Dhoni will once again play for the CSK in the IPL but Dhoni’s future in the Indian colors looks bleak. However, Hussey feels it would be a mistake to write off a champion player like MS.

Hussey believes this is a welcome break for MS Dhoni and if he can stay at the top of his fitness, then there is no doubt that he can still play at the top level. Dhoni knows his game and it might take him some time before he can hit the ground running.

“I am obviously not an Indian selector but I don’t think you can discount MSD. You should never write off champions and champion players, and he has given so much to the country as a player and leader,” Hussey said during ”HotSpot: The Cricket Podcast” by Chetan Narula and Deep Dasgupta.

“He (Dhoni) still keeps himself in very good shape so as long as he keeps himself fit and healthy, and maybe this break is really helpful for him to rest and get a break especially from the physical side of things…because he has so much experience.

“It will take time to get his skills to the required level but not as long as other players who don’t know their game as well. He has a great understanding of his own game and the whole game in general. I am not worried about the skilled perspective,” Hussey added.

Dhoni has all the experience under his belt and it is known that if there is someone who can make a heroic comeback, it is him. The wicket-keeper batsman hasn’t played for a long time and it would be interesting to note how he performs in the forthcoming IPL, whenever it happens.
