Want to be a professional cricketer?
Indian all-rounder Vijay Shankar has revealed an incident when a Pakistan fan started abusing the Indian cricketers during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. Team India has been on a fine run against Pakistan in ODI World Cups and have not lost a game in the world cup for a very long time.
India and Pakistan are arch-rivals on the field because of the political tensions between the two nations. The two teams have not locked horns since 2012 in a bilateral series and they collide against each other only in multi-nation tournaments. The last time these two teams faced off each other was in the 2019 World Cup when India continued their winning streak and beat their arch-rivals by 89 runs.
Now, Vijay Shankar has revealed that a Pakistan fan started abusing the Indian cricketers even a day before the match was played.
Vijay Shankar Narrates An Incident When A Pakistan Fan Abused Team India
“So one day before the game, they told me, be prepared, you’ll be playing. And I was like, ‘OK,’” Shankar said on the Bharat Army podcast. “Few of us players had gone out for coffee one day before the game, when a Pakistan fan came up to us and he was literally abusing us.
“So that was my first experience of an India-Pakistan game. “We just had to take it. He was abusing us and recording everything, so we couldn’t react. All we could do was sit and watch what he was doing,” Vijay Shankar added.
“It’s very hard for me to sit in a room and do nothing,” he said. “I want to go out for a coffee and all and I had Dinesh Karthik with me. So the two of us would go out for coffee. We used to have some fun, which is very important, I feel, because the pressure is very high. So we just have to give some time to ourselves, ease out and chill,” Vijay Shankar said.
India And Pakistan Are Not On Good Terms
Pakistan recently hosted Sri Lanka in a T20I and Test series at home while Bangladesh also travelled to the country to play a three-match T20I series with the Men in Green. The series against both countries were hosted smoothly, and Akhtar believes Pakistan is safe to play for any international team.
Recently, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) dragged the BCCI to court for its alleged failure to honour the MoU signed between the two respective bodies for the scheduling of six bilateral series between India and Pakistan between 2015 and 2023. However, no such action in this regard can be binding and thus, BCCI did not seem very troubled with it.
