Rohit Sharma has achieved massive hit in his first assignment as a Test opener. While the world cricket is praising Rohit Sharma, former English captain Michael Vaughan gave his view on that knock.
The Indian national cricket team is currently the no.1-ranked Test team. However, they haven’t settle Test opening partner at present. In this opening batting crisis, team management has decided to try Rohit Sharma as a Test opener.
Since he took the opening batting role in the limited-overs cricket, Rohit has achieved huge success through his consistent batting performances. At present, he is the no.2-ranked ODI batsman and second most T20I run-scorer.
However, his Test career is not as bright as the limited-overs formats. Before the ongoing Test series against South Africa, Rohit mostly played as a middle-order batsman in Test cricket and never opened the Test innings.
But observing his present form as an opener in limited-overs cricket, the selectors have confidently decided to try him as a Test opener.
In the ongoing Visakhapatnam Test against South Africa, Rohit Sharma came to bat as an opener for the first time in Test cricket. After winning the toss, Indian captain Virat Kohli decided to bat first, and Rohit started India’s innings along with Mayank Agarwal.
Rohit Sharma scored 176 runs
On the rain-interrupted day one, Rohit completed his century in 154 balls and remained not out on 115 runs. At the stumps of that day, India scored 202/0 while the other opener Mayank remained not out on 84 runs.
Both the openers carried their dominating batting performances on the day two morning. Rohit scored 176 runs off 244 balls (23 fours and 6 sixes) before losing his wicket. It was his second-highest Test knock as his best Test score is 177 runs. Indian openers Mayank and Rohit put the mammoth 317 runs partnership and then Rohit was stumped out.
Michael Vaughan praised the new Test opening batsman Rohit Sharma. The former England captain is not feeling any surprise to see Rohit’s success as an opener.
Vaughan wrote on his official Twitter account, “So @ImRo45 opens and scores a huge ?!!!! No surprises … #INDvSA”

However, the opener Mayank Agarwal has snatched the bigger limelight on the day two of this Visakhapatnam Test. Mayank carried his strong and solid batting performance and converted his maiden Test century to the double century knock. Before losing his wicket, he scored 215 runs off 371 balls (23 fours and 6 sixes).
