Former England skipper Michael Vaughan is optimistic about hosts chances in the upcoming 2019 World Cup. The No. 1 side will host the twelfth edition of the quadrennial event between May 30 and July 14.

The 44-year-old cricketer-turned-commentator Vaughan, who represented the Three Lions in 86 ODIs, has picked his 15-member squad ahead of the squad announcement from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).

The former batsman Vaughan has named a couple of exciting players in the squad.

While settling with Jason Roy and Bairstow at the top, he has picked Alex Hales among openers too. Recently, Hales has vowed to perform well in the white-ball fold. He reiterated that he might not become a good Test cricketer, but he enough gas in the tank – to come good in the limited-overs fold.

Pertinently, following the poor show in the 2015 World Cup, Eoin Morgan side made a strong comeback to win series after another.

Furthermore, the side has depth in their batting department which makes them a threat.

The hosts will kick off their home-bound World Cup campaign against South Africa at the Kia Oval.

In the past, England has made to the grand final on three occasions since 1979. Further, they made it to the finals in 1987 and 1992 respectively.

However, England has announced their 15-man squad on Wednesday (April 17).

Vaughan, who has led England in his own ways, had picked Jofra Archer, who has had missed the final cut.

However, the Windies-born all-rounder Archer is the part of England squad for Pakistan ODIs. Moreover, he has been named in the Twenty20 International squad for Pakistan and Ireland.

The home series against Pakistan will culminate on May 19. The selectors further maintained that players could break into the coveted World Cup squad given to their performances.

Also, before the deadline on 23 May, England national selector Ed Smith has named the provisional 15-man squad for the World Cup.

Eoin Morgan (Captain), Moeen Ali, Jonny Bairstow, Jos Buttler, Tom Curran, Joe Denly, Alex Hales, Liam Plunkett, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Jason Roy, Ben Stokes, David Willey, Chris Woakes and Mark Wood.
