Bangladesh origin model and Miss Ireland 2014, Maksuda Akhter Prioty, recently showed up to support her Bangladesh Cricket team during the fourth match of the tri-nation series against Ireland in Dublin. Maksuda was invited by the Bangladeshi officials to cheer the team.
“Bangladesh vs Ireland Cricket Match!! Thank a lot Bangladesh Cricket Team for inviting me to watch the match today. I’m honoured!! Good luck!!” Prioty posted on Facebook.
Maksuda, an Irish by nationality, turned up in the stadium wearing Bangladeshi jersey and shared her experience through a Facebook live video.
“My jersey clearly identifies that I am here only to support Bangladesh. I was invited by the Bangladesh officials to come here. So obviously I will be supporting Bangladesh. However, I have best wishes to the Ireland cricket team too. But today I am cheering for Bangladesh,” Prioty told in her video.
Maksuda went back with a smiley face, as the match ended in Bangladesh’s favour. Left-arm seamer Mustafizur Rahman snapped 4/23 and Mashrafe Mortaza picked 2/18 to bundle out Ireland for just 181 in 46.3 overs after choosing to bowl first on the grassy track.
Ireland proved to be no match to their opposition. After coming out to bat, it took the hosts nine deliveries and loss of opener Paul Stirling to post the first runs on the board. Mustafizur was outstanding with the ball and kick-started the downfall.
The rest of the batting line-up soon began to crash. William Porterfield (22), Andy Balbirnie (12) and Niall O Brien (30) all had good starts but failed to convert it. Opener Ed Joyce looked like the only batsmen who showed some stealth against the Bangladeshi bowling attack.
In response, Soumya Sarkar led the charge and hammered 87 off just 68 deliveries to help Bangladesh chase down the target in just 27.1 overs with eight wickets in hands. Opener Tamim Iqbal also showed some good attacking instincts and contributed 57 from 54 deliveries and forge 95 runs opening wicket stand with Sarkar.
Sabbir Rahman also made a handy contribution of 35 from just 34 deliveries but failed to stay until the end with Sarkar at the other end.
