Mohit Sharma Heaps Praise On MS Dhoni, Calls Him A ‘True Leader’

Indian cricketer Mohit Sharma, who is a regular feature in the Indian Premier League (IPL), has lauded the former Indian captain, MS Dhoni. He mentions Dhoni is a ‘true leader’, who supports the team in difficult situations.

Mohit has played for Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings between 2013 and 2015. He also played in the 2019 season. Sharma was released by CSK ahead of the 13th edition of the IPL and was bought by Delhi Capitals for INR 50 Lakh. He has also played for Kings XI Punjab from 2016 to 2018.

The pacer also made ODI and T20I debut under the captaincy of Dhoni in 2013 and 2014 respectively. So far, the 31-year old has played 26 ODIs and 8 T20Is and picked up 31 and 6 wickets respectively.

The ex-CSK player has heaped praise on Dhoni. He has said that he takes responsibility when a team loses but leaves the limelight for other times of victories.

“His (Dhoni’s) humility and sense of gratitude are what sets him apart from other players I have played with. In sport, there’s a difference between a captain and a leader – I believe he’s a true leader,” Sharma said during an Instagram Live chat organised by his IPL franchise Delhi Capitals.

“When the team wins, you’ll never find him anywhere prominently, but when the team loses, he’s always right in front, taking responsibility – that’s the sign of a leader and why I admire him so much,” he said.

Well, Mohit had gone under back surgery and was under the rehabilitation period for the past three months. He was set to make a comeback in this edition of IPL but unfortunately, the lucrative league has been affected by the pandemic.

The DC player is looking forward to playing for the new franchise which has likes of Shreyas Iyer, Shikhar Dhawan, and Ishant Sharma, whom the pacer shares a great bond.

“It would also be a golden opportunity to work and learn from Ricky Ponting – all the players only have praises for him. I hope the team does exceedingly well when the IPL happens, and we can give the Delhi fans great joy,” he said.

So far, Mohit Sharma has played 85 IPL matches and has picked up 91 wickets at an average of 26.64. In the last edition, he just played one game and picked up one wicket.
