Former Indian skipper MS Dhoni childhood coach Keshav Banerjee believes the wicket-keeper batsman can play the T20 World Cup even if it postponed to next year. DhoniRetires was trending last night and Banerjee added one must not believe in the rumors. Banerjee revealed that Dhoni is still fit as a fiddle and he can make the comeback into the national side.
Meanwhile, MS Dhoni last played for the Indian team back in the semi-final of the World Cup against New Zealand. Subsequently, Dhoni decided to take a break from the game and made himself unavailable for national selection.
MS Dhoni has still got some fuel left in the tank, feels his coach
In fact, Dhoni’s retirement has been the talk of the town since his last match for the Indian team. However, retirement will be Dhoni’s own call and it is imperative that he gets the space.
Banerjee added that Dhoni will not tell everyone if he has to retire. Dhoni had retired from the Test fold back in 2014 without creating any razzmatazz.
Keshav Banerjee told IANS, “Dhoni is not the kind of person who will call up people and tell them ‘I am retiring’. He knows how to do it. When he feels it is time, he will inform BCCI and call a proper press conference and do all the things that need to be done. Like he did when he called time on his Test career.
“You will get to see in the IPL how fit Dhoni still is. He can play the T20 World Cup even if it is postponed. Even if it happens next year.”
On the other hand, Dhoni’s wife, Sakshi Dhoni had lashed out at the people who were creating rumors of Dhoni’s retirement and she said that lockdown has made people mentally unstable.
Meanwhile, Dhoni has been out of action for almost 10 months and it would not be easy for him to hit the ground running. He had attended CSK’s training camp and all the players had confirmed that he was looking in fine touch. It was expected that the 13th edition of the IPL will play a key role in Dhoni’s return to the national colors. However, there is still no confirmation on the IPL.
Dhoni has all the experience under his belt and it would be interesting to note his comeback into professional cricket.
