Former Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara has shed light on the future of India’s legendary wicket-keeper batsman, MS Dhoni. Sangakkara reckons Dhoni knows what is best for him and his country as a cricketer. In fact, the former Sri Lanka wicket-keeper stated that Dhoni may not announce the official decision on his retirement.

Meanwhile, Dhoni had played his last match in the Indian colors back in the semi-final contest against New Zealand in the 2019 World Cup. Subsequently, Dhoni didn’t take part in any kind of professional cricket and made himself unavailable for Indian selection.

MS Dhoni will be back in the IPL

As expected, Dhoni’s return to the national team started looking bleak. Dhoni was expected to call time on his career after the World Cup but the legendary wicket-keeper batsman had other plans. In fact, a lot of the times #DhoniRetires has trended on social media but they all have been rumors.

Dhoni is known to keep the media at a distance and there haven’t many updates on his retirement from his side. It is now expected that Dhoni might not play for the Indian team but he would continue to play in the IPL for CSK.

“It changes from player to player. Sometimes, retirement does not require an official statement or a press release. Some cricketers just step aside and leave the arguing, speculation, and everything else to others,” Sangakkara said while taking to Harsha Bhogle on Cricbuzz.

“I believe MS Dhoni is a person who’d like others to argue upon what he should be doing. He very well knows what’s best for him,” he added.

Sangakkara believes that Dhoni will leave the decision on the selectors and he respects the system which is in place. In fact, Sangakkara reckons that Dhoni would one day stop training for CSK and then people will realize that he has completely retired.

“For MS, he will leave the decision of him being selected or not to the selectors. He respects the system that he will leave it up to others. He may decide to make a formal statement about his future but I think he is very secure about who he is, his cricket, his family,” Sangakkara remarked.

“Don’t think he will care much whether he gets picked for India or not. He will be happy playing just for Chennai Super Kings and you will suddenly find him not turning up for training for Chennai. That is when you will realize that Dhoni has decided to retire completely. Everyone’s different.”

MS Dhoni has always been clear about his future. Dhoni has not made any official announcement regarding his retirement and the final call should be left to him.
