India opened its ICC World Cup 2019 account with a remarkable win. They turned South Africa down to their third loss by six wickets. Despite losing two wickets early in the game, India chased a score of 228 runs in 47.3 overs. Rohit Sharma was unbeaten with 122 runs off 144 balls while MS Dhoni scored with 34 runs in 46 balls. However, this wasn’t just it, the Indian gloveman supported his team with his lightning-quick stumping as well.

After winning the toss, South Africa went on to build a score of 227 runs with a loss of nine wickets. The Proteas’ lacked good batting partnership, Chris Morris(42 off 34) scored the highest for the team. Faf du Plessis scored 38 runs, meanwhile, Andile Phehlukwayo was stumped by Dhoni of Yuzvendra Chahal for 34 runs. Chahal and Jasprit Bumrah made it difficult for South Africans to get past the figures of three. Chahal took four wickets while Bumrah’s restricted the Proteas’ player allowing them just 3.50 runs in an over.

While chasing the scores, India started off bad losing two important wickets in the early overs. They lost Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli at a mere score of 8 and 18 runs respectively. However, Kohli’s deputy had his back and remained unbeaten till the very end of the game. Rohit partnered with KL Rahul who scored 26 runs off 42 runs. But it was MS Dhoni who helped Rohit to assemble scores for the team. On the other end, the Indian opener Hardik Pandya sailed India off to their win hitting a four and finishing the match in his style.

Nevertheless, the Indian gloveman Dhoni caught the limelight of the match when cameras zoomed in on his gloves. Dhoni wore gloves that had a picture of the regimental dagger insignia of the Indian Para Special Forces. Although, it was no big surprise for Dhoni is known for his love for Indian Military forces. He has previously undergone a two-week initial training with the para regiment. Earlier in 2011 also, Dhoni had pulled on the uniform of commando when he was conferred an honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Parachute Regiment. Dhoni had also been in training under the Para Brigade in 2015, where he’d done five parachute jumps.
