The 39-year-old former Indian World T20 and World Cup-winning captain MS Dhoni just announced his retirement from the international cricket.

The wicket-keeper batsman MS Dhoni had a long international career from December 2004 to July 2019 as he played 538 international matches, including 90 Tests, 350 ODIs and 98 T20Is. He was one of the greatest cricketers in international cricket history who achieved mastery in almost every aspect of his roles on the cricket field.

As Dhoni led the Indian national cricket team in 332 international matches (60 Tests, 200 ODIs and 72 T20Is), he played the remaining 206 international matches under the other captains. While Dhoni is holding the record of most capped international captains, India achieved many successes under his captaincies, including winning the ICC World T20 2007, ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 and ICC Champions Trophy 2013.

Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly introduced the wicket-keeper batsman MS Dhoni during the ODI series against the hosts Bangladesh in December 2004. Ganguly had a strong faith in Dhoni, who never disappointed him since the fifth opportunity in international cricket where Ganguly gave up the no.3 batting spot for Dhoni during the 2005 Visakhapatnam ODI against Pakistan (scored 148 runs). In less than a year (2004-2005), Dhoni played a total of 12 ODIs under the leadership of Ganguly.
