The Indian cricket fans haven’t seen MS Dhoni in the cricket field since the semi-final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. While everyone has the same question in mind – when MS Dhoni will return to the cricket field, there is a chance that we can see him in the early phase of 2020.
Since the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, MS Dhoni hasn’t played any professional cricket match. Though Dhoni has been seen publicly many times after that tournament, he hasn’t opened up about his future in cricket.
While MS Dhoni is silent about his cricket future, the speculation of his retirement is growing up hugely. Observing the current situation in BCCI, especially the selectors, it is expected that they are also unsure about MS Dhoni’s cricket future.
After the CWC 2019, India have already played four limited-overs series and MS Dhoni wasn’t available in those series. The selectors have already announced the T20I and ODI squads for the forthcoming home bilateral series against Windies, and once again Dhoni isn’t available for these series too.
In January 2020, India have the home limited-overs series against Sri Lanka and Australia respectively. Then, they will travel to New Zealand for the full international series. In March, India will host the three-match ODI series against South Africa, which will be most probably the last international cricket assignment for India before the IPL 2020.
In the meantime, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) have scheduled to organise two special T20I matches between Asia XI and World XI, in the birth centenary celebration of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founder of Bangladesh. Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (Dhaka) will host these matches on 18th and 21st March 2020.
BCB wants to see MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli in these special matches
According to the recent media reports, the BCB has recently requested the BCCI to allow around seven Indian star cricketers to take the part in those special matches.
The BCB wants to see the former Indian captain MS Dhoni and the present Indian captain Virat Kohli in this special tournament. The other names in this request list are Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ravindra Jadeja.
Nizamuddin Chowdhury, the BCB chief executive, told India Today, “Yes, Bangladesh is scheduled to host two T20 Internationals between Asia XI and Rest of the World. We are in touch with BCCI and other cricket boards of the Asian region to allow their players to be part of these two games.”
If the BCCI gives permission to at least some of these top cricketers then the Indian fans will give big interest in the special T20Is between Asia XI and World XI. So, there is an also chance that we can finally see MS Dhoni in this series.
However, there is a hard chance to see any top Indian players during this special T20I series, especially in the first T20I. Because on the same date (18th March 2020) of the first T20I between Asia XI and World XI, India have the schedule to play the Kolkata ODI against South Africa which will be the third and final game of this series.
As Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has retained their captain MS Dhoni before the upcoming IPL auction, we can at least expect that Dhoni will play in the IPL 2020.
