India’s current limited-over skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni set a new world record during the 2nd T20I against Australia at Melbourne on Friday. Wicketkeeper Dhoni registered most stumpings in the international cricket. The 34-years old wicket-keeper effected 140 stumping dismissals in his international career.
Dhoni surpassed former Sri Lankan wicket-keeper Kumar Sangakkara (139 stumpings) after dismissing Australian batsman James Faulkner. It was a lucky dismissal for Dhoni as the ball struck on his leg and then it hit the wicket after completely missing the ball by Faulkner. Faulkner was outside the crease when the ball hit the stumps.
Before that dismissal, Dhoni made two more dismissals in this match as he took one catch and one stumping. With these three dismissals in the match, Dhoni achieved this record.
Dhoni also climbed up at no.3 position in the most international career dismissals as a wicketkeeper. He has 679 dismissals including 539 catches and 140 stumpings. In this list, he is behind former South African wicket-keeper Mark Boucher (998 dismissals) and former Australian wicket-keeper Adam Gilchrist (905 dismissals).
