The 38-year-old former Indian World Cup-winning captain MS Dhoni hasn’t played a cricket match for around last ten months. While many believe that Dhoni’s international career is over, one of his longtime friend and former Jharkhand teammate, Manish Vardhan Singh has come up with totally different news.
MS Dhoni last time served for the Indian national cricket team in the semi-final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 on 10th July 2019 where India suffered a heart-breaking defeat against New Zealand. Since then, Dhoni has continuously made himself unavailable for the game.
However, Dhoni was working hard to return to the game during the IPL 2020 where he was ready to continue the leadership of Chennai Super Kings (CSK). While the IPL 2020 was scheduled to begin on 29th March 2020, the coronavirus pandemic has forced to postpone the beginning of this tournament. So, Dhoni’s return to the cricket field has been delayed now for the indefinite period.
Before the IPL 2020, there was speculation that Dhoni would decide on his international future after the tournament. Many believed that Dhoni’s form in the IPL 2020 would determine if he would represent the Indian team again at least till the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020 or not.
But as the IPL 2020 has been postponed, and there is no assurance about the beginning of this tournament, many feel that Dhoni’s international career is over.
MS Dhoni was preparing very hard for the IPL: Manish Vardhan Singh
However, in a recent conversation with MyKhel, Manish Vardhan Singh has claimed that he still believes about Dhoni’s return to the Indian team and participate in the upcoming T20 World Cup. He feels that Dhoni has still a lot of cricket left in him.
Singh told MyKhel, “Mahi has a lot of cricket left in him and I am sure he’s still capable of making India comeback because he’s such a great player. He was preparing very hard for the IPL but unfortunately, this lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic has postponed his return on the cricket pitch. I still believe that he’s going to be a part of Team India in the T20 World Cup in Australia and think about his retirement after that.”
Manish Vardhan Singh served for Jharkhand from 2004 to 2014 where he played 48 first-class matches, 16 List A games and five T20s.
