The Indian cricketer KL Rahul is running in a poor batting form in recent times. Recently, the chairman of the Indian cricket team’s selection committee, MSK Prasad spoke about his vision on KL Rahul.
KL Rahul had an impressive journey during the IPL 2018. As an opening batsman, the right-handed batsman carried his side Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) consistently in that tournament, but still, the team failed to perform upto their mark due to lack of team support. He finished the tournament as the third highest run-scorer as he scored 659 runs with an average of 54.91 and the strike-rate of 158.41. The right-handed batsman played a total of six half-century innings in that tournament, including his best knock of 95*.
He carried his good form during the initial UK tour, but his performances have declined gradually since the ODI series in England tour. Though he played a brilliant fighting century knock during The Oval Test in last September, he failed to maintain it further.
In recent Australia tour, KL Rahul played five Test innings where he failed to reach the double-digit scores for four times. Later, he faced suspension for the talk-show controversy. Though his suspension has been lifted, KL Rahul hasn’t returned to the national squad yet.
KL Rahul is playing for India A
Now, KL Rahul is playing for India A in the home series against England Lions. In the recently concluded List A series, he had some mediocre performances as he scored 13, 42 and 0. Later, in the ongoing first unofficial Test match, KL Rahul played an 89-run knock.
Talking about KL Rahul, MSK Prasad recently told TOI, “His form has become a big cause of concern. He is too good a player, and I am sure he is working hard to be back among the runs. We have put him in the India ‘A’ squad to play against the England Lions so that he can spend some time in the middle and get back in some form.”
Though KL Rahul is running in poor form, he still has the chance to feature in the upcoming World Cup squad. The team is still searching for the third opener, so returning to the form can open another opportunity for him. England and Wales will organise the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup from 30 May to 14 July.
