Sunil Gavaskar, a veteran Indian cricketer, has chosen two Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises that he would have loved to be a part of during his playing days. He also listed certain Indian players from his era who would have excelled in the IPL.
The Mumbai-born cricketer Gavaskar picks Mumbai Indians (MI) as his first choice among the 10 IPL teams but also had a back option in the form of Chennai Super Kings ( CSK).
Sunil Gavaskar chose Mumbai Indians as his first choice IPL team to be part of-
“Mumbai Indians, who else? If not, then I would like to play for Chennai Super Kings. Chennai Super Kings for two reasons, firstly, the Chennai owners are passionate about cricket, they have done so much for the sport. Srinivasan sir has done a lot for cricket,” Gavaskar told Star Sports on IPL’s 15th anniversary.
While in IPL history, CSK has won 4 titles and MI has managed to clinch 5, these two teams have dominated the league in the last 5 years, winning 4 titles between them. In the 2022 edition, Gujarat Titans (GT) lifted the trophy.
While MS Dhoni has furthered his legacy in International cricket success, with all ICC Titles along with his IPL success, present Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma also evolved into one of the finest white-ball captains with his success at MI.
“And the second big reason would be to sit in the dressing room with MS Dhoni and see how he captains the team. Is he as calm and composed in the dressing room as he is on the field? Does he lose his cool when someone has dropped a catch or somebody didn’t back up a fielder? That’s what I would like to know,” he further added.
Dhoni has been one of the most successful skippers in International cricket with the ICC T20 World Cup, ODI World Cup and Champions Trophy Titles. While, he has been part of the Chennai-based franchise since the inaugural edition, and it has been only two occasions in the last 15 editions when CSK missed qualification for the playoffs.
“Look, a batsman I would like to see would be Sandeep Patil, there is only one all-rounder who I would choose – Kapil Dev, for the bowler, I would like to see BS Chandrashekhar play in the T20 format, because his bowling action was not suited only for test cricket, but one day cricket and T20 cricket would also be easy for him,” Gavaskar named veteran Indian cricketers who would have shined in IPL.
