India’s Test opener Murali Vijay finally found some runs on the England soil as he scored a fine fifty on his County debut for Essex. Vijay had struggled to get going in the English conditions on the recent tour.
Vijay played only first two Test matches in which he scored a total of 26 runs. Therefore, he could not deliver the goods for the team. Subsequently, he has dropped from the third Test match.

Furthermore, he was shown the exit doors from the squad after the first three Test matches as he could not make the cut for the final two Tests. Thus, he had to take the return flight to India.
Meanwhile, Vijay was able to find his Midas Touch as he put together an alliance of 56 runs with his opening partner Nick Browne. Nottinghamshire scored 177 runs in their first innings.
Vijay went on score 56 runs in 95 balls. The flamboyant right-hander went on to score nine boundaries in his knock. Thus, this knock must have added a shot in the arm for the Tamil Nadu batsman.
However, Essex failed to capitalise on the advantage as they lost quick wickets in the fag end of the day. The visitors lost five wickets on 133, thus they trail the hosts by 44 runs.
Meanwhile, Murali Vijay will like to get more confidence under his belt. The stylish right-hander had scored 402 runs in the previous tour of England in 2014, as he was the leading run-getter in the series for India. However, he could not hit the ground running on the 2018 tour.

Murali Vijay was the first choice opener for India before the series. However, he was shown the exit doors after the dismal performance in the first two Test matches. Thus, he could have been given one more chance in the third Test match.
