India pacer Ashish Nehra, who will play his last international game tomorrow (November 1), has commented on the yo-yo test, which is one of the parameters to get a place in the India cricket team.

Nehra has said that a player must push himself to attain the minimum number of fitness level,
“It’s a benchmark that the team has set. Nobody is asking you to match the numbers of Manish Pandey and MS Dhoni but you need to push to attain the minimum number,” he told TOI.
Yo-yo test has gained a sudden importance from past few months. Though Indian skipper Virat Kohli had laid certain fitness level for the players with the Chief Selector also confirming that only fit players would be given a place in the team, the test gained an immediate importance and those failing the test weren’t even considered for a place.
The cases of Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina also came in the open, who failed the test twice in a matter of few months and as of now, they are also not a part of Indian cricket team.
The players need to maintain a certain number to be even considered for a place in the Indian team.
Further commenting on his coaching plans for the future, Nehra cleared that he will not coach Indian team before 2019 and will look for IPL offers at the moment,
“Shastri (Ravi) and his team are doing a good job. Arun (Bharat) has a practical knowledge. I will look into IPL offers but I don’t think I will coach India before 2019,” he added.

Nehra is the bowler who has been mentoring the pacers of the Indian team since his comeback in 2016. Players like Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and all others would learn a lot from him if Nehra joins the Indian team backroom staff. Then it could be one of the best things to have happened, but the current coaching set-up has a contract till 2019. Nehra, though, has said that he will be looking into offers from IPL.
As of now, the only thing which would be going in Nehra’s mind would be whether he will be the part playing XI in the first T20I against New Zealand or not.
