Nick Compton Bids Farewell to All Forms of Cricket

Former England top-order batsman, Nick Compton has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on October 4 (Thursday).

Meanwhile, Compton made his debut for England in 2012 against India at Ahmedabad. Since then he has played 16 Test between 2012 and 2016 scoring 775 runs including two hundred. Furthermore, he also played a crucial knock of 85 runs at Durban against South Africa, to guide his team to a hard-fought victory.

Nick Compton’s career faced an unexpected hurdle in 2016 when he had to take a break from cricket for “physical and mental reasons” after failing to impress in the three-match series against Sri Lanka. He then never managed to earn a recall as the Lord’s Test turned out to be his last.

Speaking after the announcement,  Compton admitted that the series win in India was the pinnacle of his career.

“The pinnacle of my career was following in my grandfather Denis Compton’s footsteps, having achieved my dream of playing and winning Test series for England,” Nick Compton told the Middlesex website. “I am particularly proud of our series victory in India [in 2012], the first time in 28 years an England team had won in India.”

“There have been some challenges that I have had to confront, but in spite of these, I feel incredibly fortunate. Winning the County Championship at Lord’s on the final day of the 2016 season for Middlesex provided all involved with an experience that we will savour for the rest of our lives,” he added.

Nic Compton had a fruitful career in first-class cricket. The right-hander registered 12,168 runs at an average of 40.42. He also aggregated 3,174 and 1,318 runs in List A and T20s respectively.

Compton made his debut for Middlesex way back in 2004. It, however, took him a couple of years to mark his announcement. In 2006, he scored 1,315 first-class runs at an average of 46.96.

Compton also announced he will now take up an ambassadorial role with Middlesex.
