Bangladesh for the first time on the tour is on the drivers seat by gaining a lead of 122 runs at stumps on day four in the first Tests against New Zealand at Wellington.

Bangladesh dismissed New Zealand for 539 runs as they gained 66 runs lead at the end of the Kiwi innings. At the end of day 4, take a lead of 122 runs by the end of day four of the first Test match at Wellington.

New Zealand started off well with left-hander Henry Nicholls scoring his maiden Test half-century and opener Tom Latham continued his impressive run to bring up his 150 in the first innings. The hosts appeared to take on the visitors but only then Shakib-Al-Hasan dismissed Nicholls on 53. All-rounder Colin de Grandhomme couldn’t bother the scorers either, as he was caught behind for just 14.

Latham heroics was later cut short on 177 while Watling returned back to the pavilion for 49. Medium pacer Kamrul Islam Rabbi picked up three wickets, as the hosts’ first innings was wrapped on 539, giving Bangladesh a lead of 56 runs.

In their second innings, Bangladesh didn’t appear comfortable in plugging up runs, as opener Imrul Kayes was retired hurt early on, after keeping the wickets for 149 overs in the absence of injured Mushfiqur Rahim. Having a look at their injury list, two of their top batsmen might not take the field on day five, which by a slighter margin reduces their chances of scoring big and keeping the draw as the likeliest result to come, if not losing the match.
