The New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has banned one fan for abusive comments on a commentator during the Bay Oval T20I between New Zealand and India on last Sunday (2nd February) night.
It was the fifth and final game of the five-match T20I series that India won by seven runs. According to the report of stuff.co.nz, a 24-year-old man was arrested for trespass around 10.20 pm. Initially, he and another man were expelled out from the stadium by the security after an Indian commentator denied signing an autograph to them and he started to abuse the commentator.
Later, the alleged man returned to the stadium and continued his abuse to the commentator. Finally, the police arrested him. The alleged man was reportedly Indian descent, and that abuse wasn’t racist abuse. While the police have given the pre-charge warning to him, the NZC has banned him. The ban period is expectedly for the rest of the ongoing home season.
Earlier, in last month, the NZC banned one Auckland spectator for two years after his racial abuse to the English cricketer Jofra Archer during the Bay Oval Test.
A total of 12 fans were evicted during Bay Oval T20I
Coming back to the latest T20I, NZC public affairs manager Richard Boock reported that 12 fans were evicted from the venue for unruly behaviour. They were generally involved in either offensive language or disruption to other spectators. Two fans were arrested for trying to re-enter in the stadium. Around 6,250 fans were present during that final game of the T20I series between New Zealand and India.
After winning the toss, Rohit Sharma-led India batted first and managed to score 163/3 (20 overs). In reply, the hosts were restricted to 156/9 (20 overs).
With that victory, India completed the whitewash in this T20I series as they won it by the 5-0 margin. India became the first team to complete a whitewash in a bilateral T20I series that has at least five matches. During this series, the third and fourth matches had the tie results, and the visitors won in one-over eliminators.
