South Africa’s one Test match player Hardus Viljoen, who also signed Kolpak contract in December 2016, made his IPL debut in the 2019 edition for his present team Kings XI Punjab (KXIP). In that IPL season, the right-arm fast bowler picked up seven wickets in six matches.
After playing 125 T20s, the 31-year-old fast bowler has managed to pick up 140 wickets. However, the present KXIP team is already filled with some crucial regular overseas players like opener Chris Gayle, all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, young wicket-keeper Nicholas Pooran, off-spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman etc. They also have new additions like James Neesham, Sheldon Cottrell and Chris Jordan. While the South African cricketers are already highly doubtful for the IPL 2020, Viljoen has also likely very lesser chance to earn preference than the other KXIP overseas cricketers.
