Want to be a professional cricketer?
During the IPL 2020 auction, Australian pacer Pat Cummins created a record after becoming most expensive overseas buy in IPL history as Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) bought him for INR 15.50 crore. Soon, he reacted on that selection. Later, the new KKR head coach Brendon McCullum came with a hilarious request to the fast bowler.
The 26-year-old right-arm fast bowler Pat Cummins is a very consistent bowler which leads him to the top positions in the ICC bowling rankings. At present, he is the no.1-ranked Test bowler, no.5-ranked ODI bowler and no.23-ranked T20I bowler. Due to irregular presence in T20I format, his ranking is low in this format. The right-arm pacer has played 25 T20Is where he has taken 32 wickets (average 20.12). Meanwhile, Cummins has picked up 92 wickets in 77 T20s.
Pat Cummins has already experienced IPL. In his first two IPL seasons, Cummins served for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), where he played four matches and took only two wickets. While Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) bought him in 2017, the right-arm pacer scalped 15 wickets in 12 matches.
The Australian cricketer’s bid started from INR 2 crore
The IPL 2020 will be the fourth IPL season for Pat Cummins and he has returned to the KKR for the new season. In the IPL 2020 auction, Cummins started with the base price of INR 2 crore while Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) began the race. Delhi Capitals (DC), Cummins’ last IPL franchise-city, also showed high interest on the Aussie pacer and the RCB-DC battle went for a long time. But when DC gave up after RCB reached INR 14.75 crore, KKR joined in that battle and soon snatched Cummins for a record price of INR 15.50 crore.
The previous highest deal for an overseas cricketer in the IPL auction was 14.50 crore for Ben Stokes which was won by now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) in IPL 2017 auction. However, the former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh is still holding the record of most expensive buy at IPL auction as Delhi Daredevils bought him for INR 16 crore in the IPL 2015 auction.
Can’t wait Baz – Pat Cummins
After securing English limited-overs captain Eoin Morgan and Aussie pacer Pat Cummins, KKR head coach Brendon McCullum welcomed them through his social media post. Cummins soon twitted, “Can’t wait Baz 👊🏼👊🏼”. The fast bowler is very excited to join the KKR team.

Later, Brendon McCullum came with a hilarious request to Cummins. While Pat Cummins is currently busy in the home Test series against New Zealand, McCullum tweeted, “Think you should rest the remainder of the Nz Test series to make sure you will be in peak condition for the @ipl !! 🤔😂😂😂”
