South Africa’s batsman Faf du Plessis was caught when he was trying to tamper with the ball using the zip of the trousers. Yes, those were the days when the ICC was lenient in their punishment of ball-tampering, and Pakistan was awarded five penalty runs after umpires Ian Gould and Rod Tucker found du Plessis’ intentions.
South Africa was able to win that match by a huge margin of an innings and 92 runs but Faf du Plessis had got himself into a controversy. du Plessis was trying to tamper the ball to help his bowlers get reverse swing.
However, ball-tampering bans are now strict as Cricket Australia had banned David Warner and Steven Smith for one year.
