While the Caribbean left-handed opening batsman Chris Gayle has the high record, especially in the shortest format, he struggled to find a team during the 2018 IPL auction. At the very late moment of that auction, Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) opened the bid for him and secured him for the base price of INR 2 crore.
However, in the IPL 2018 and IPL 2019, Gayle played the very important role for the KXIP batting line-up as he finished as the second most run-scorer for his team in both these editions. While he scored 368 runs in 11 matches during the IPL 2018 (average 40.88; strike-rate 146.03), the left-handed batsman also scored 490 runs in 13 matches during the IPL 2019 (average 40.83; strike-rate 153.60). He hit an only century and three half-centuries in the IPL 2018 and also hit four half-centuries in the IPL 2019.
