On Tuesday (30th July), the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the back-dated suspension of eight months for the Indian youngster Prithvi Shaw.

During the 2018/19 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (22nd February 2019), Shaw had provided a urine sample as part of the BCCI’s anti-doping testing program.

Later, the sample was found to contain Terbutaline. Terbutaline is prohibited both In & Out of Competition in the WADA Prohibited List of Substances.

After facing the charges, the 19-year-old has admitted it but called that it was inadvertent. Shaw claimed that he took the over the counter cough syrup for his cough.

Now, the BCCI has announced his suspension. The Indian governing cricket body has suspended him till the 15th November 2019, after considering the back-dated calculation from 16th March 2019.

Soon, Prithvi Shaw published a statement on his social media accounts. The youngster has clarified that it was an inadvertent mistake.

Shaw, who is currently in the rehabilitation process for a hip injury, claimed that the suspension news had shaken him.

The youngster also added that he was taking a lesson from this. He is also hopeful that it can also inspire other Indian athletes to be extremely careful in taking any medication.

Prithvi Shaw also thanked the BCCI and his other supporters to support him. The Mumbai youngster has also claimed that he will come out of this faster and stronger.

Prithvi Shaw first time earned his popularity after leading the India U19 side to win the 2018 ICC U19 Cricket World Cup.

Soon, he has put the strong impressions in the Indian domestic cricket. In last October, Shaw made debut for India as an opening batsman during the home Test series against Windies.

The right-handed batsman has played two Tests where he has scored 237 runs (average 118.50). He has already hit one century and one half-century in Test career.
